Illinois –-(Ammoland.com)- On March 16, 2015 (next Monday) the Illinois State Police (ISP) will start accepting the new online FOID applications.
The old paper applications will no longer be accepted. In fact if you applied and your application was not accepted by March 9, 2015, you will have to reapply on line.
If you wish to use a paper application you will have to call the ISP Paper Center and have one mailed to you. Minors under 21 without a Driver’s License and Amish people will have to use the Call Center method.
The FOID Division phone number is: 217-782-7980.
When you apply on line you will need to have your Illinois Driver’s License or State ID in front of you. You also need to know that the information input into the system must be exactly the same as what is on your driver’s license or state ID. For example, if you are asked your weight it must be the same as on your license or state ID. It doesn’t matter if you have gained five pounds or lost 20 (or what you tell everyone you weigh), it is what is on the state license or ID. The same is true for your name and everything else.
You will have to pay with a credit card, debit card, or if you don’t have either one of those, a gift card will work. I think this will make the processing of FOID applications much quicker. The ISP has had authority to do this electronically for some time, by the way.
It was a victory for gun owners this week when the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) withdrew their proposal to ban common rifle ammunition. The proposed ban On M855 “green tip” was clearly contrary to the statute and intent of the law. If this ban had gone unchallenged the next step would have been to ban other types of bullets.
The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) sounded the alarm early on this issue. The National Rifle Association (NRA), the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), and local groups like the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) soon joined the fight. The SAF was already preparing a lawsuit against the President and the BATFE.
This is not over. I am sure this was just the first shot in the Obama Administration’s attempt to use executive orders to attack our Second Amendment Rights.
Don’t forget IGOLD on March 18, 2015. The weather should be warmer. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Thanks for being a member.
