SALEM, Ore.—-(Ammoland.com)- Learn how to train a new hunting dog, or how to get the most out of your current dog. Sign up now for a hunting dog-training workshop July 23-24 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. both days at the Queener Ridge Pheasant Company near Scio.
Topics like obedience, water, retrieving, tracking, and working with birds and guns will be covered both days. On Saturday, hear about training strategies and on Sunday, take your dog through some actual training activities or observe how trainers work with other dogs.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own hunting dogs, although people without dogs should also get a lot out of the workshop.
This family-friendly workshop is open to adults, couples and families with children who are at least 9 years old. Adults cost $52 and youth (age 17 and under) cost $22. The cost includes lunch both days.
The event is co-hosted by the Owen Denny Chapter of Pheasants Forever, the Green Valley Hunting and Retrieving Club along with Queener Ridge Pheasant Company and ODFW. Primitive camping (no water or electricity hook-ups) is available on site for free.
“Training begins with obedience and ends with a dog that is eager to work with you,” said Mark Newell, ODFW outdoor skills coordinator. “We’ll show you how to get started and what these amazing dogs are capable of doing with the right positive training.”
Registration is required and only 40 spaces are available. Sign up at the online sales page, or at a license sales agent or ODFW office that sells licenses
