NEWTOWN, Conn –-(Ammoland.com)- In a welcome development, the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources this week voted to pass HR 1825, the bipartisan Recreational Fishing and Hunting Heritage and Opportunities Act of 2013.

Introduced by Congressman Dan Banishek (R-Mich.), the bill has more than 50 co-sponsors, from both sides of the political aisle, and recognizes and protects the rights of hunters, recreational shooters and fisherman on federal lands.

The bill now moves to the House floor, but no vote has yet been scheduled.

Importantly, the Recreational Fishing and Hunting Heritage and Opportunities Act mandates that National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands are open to hunting, fishing and recreational shooting unless specific steps are taken to close those lands for necessary and demonstrable reasons.

NSSF, National Rifle Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Safari Club International and Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation are among the organizations supporting HR 1825.

About NSSFThe National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports.
