An Illinois homeowner who found a knife-wielding teen in his Romeoville home early Sunday morning used the only thing he had on hand to stop the intruder – a souvenir bowling pin.
Authorities said the homeowner and his wife were awakened about 4:30 a.m. when they heard noises in the house. Joshua Ziebarth, 19, had apparently entered the home through an unlocked garage. After a physical altercation, the homeowner held Ziebarth until officers arrived.
The teen was arrested and is facing charges for home invasion and residential burglary. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
Romeoville Police Commander John Ferdinardo said the family, who also had a child in the home, were uninjured, but very shaken up by the ordeal.
