A tweet by the former Secretary of State attacking political rival Sen. Bernie Sanders over the 2012 Newtown shooting erupted in a volcano of backlash.
The post, dropped Thursday morning with a 45 second video clip from an MSNBC interview, ran with the tagline, “BernieSanders prioritized gun manufacturers’ rights over the parents of the children killed at Sandy Hook.”
As the key New York primary comes up on April 19, Clinton, who has taken a shellacking from the Vermont Senator in recent caucus results, needs to win the Empire State in a resounding vote to regain momentum on the way to July’s Democratic National Convention. A loss to Sanders there, in a state she represented in Congress, could make life difficult for Clinton.
And with 11 days to go before New Yorkers head to the polls, Clinton has been hammering on Sanders’ support of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), painting the current Senator as a champion for the gun industry and pulling the current lawsuit by some Newtown victims’ families against Remington into the blue-on-blue fight for political capital.
But it isn’t sitting well with the Snapchat generation.
Beth Adamo, a writer for the Huffington Post who lost her daughter in 2007, called out Clinton directly.
