New Berlin, Wis. –-(Ammoland.com)- Shawn Luchtel’s three-year wait to draw an Iowa deer hunting tag is finally answered – his patience and skills are rewarded on Heartland Bowhunter, airing exclusively on Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor TV for the American sportsman.
After battling the typical Iowa November weather, Luchtel and his team hunt long and hard to find their Iowa “trophy”. The ups and downs of this extraordinary hunt begin Friday, August 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.
The rut is in full swing and the weather is cool and wet for this Iowa bowhunt. The challenging weather slows the deer movement which means a slow couple of days for Luchtel. After the windy conditions pass, the team notices significant deer movement on their trail cameras; including a very large and mature buck. Reverting to a different strategy, he plants a decoy and watches a huge, non-typical buck walk into range and Luchtel converts on his moment of truth from 45 yards!
“I was beginning to wonder if the giant Iowa bucks were just a myth,” said Shawn Luchtel, Heartland Bowhunter. “The buck came into range but I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a shot off as he weaved in and out of the trees. This buck is huge and very old with a very strange rack. I’m honored to have an Iowa hunt under my belt and I hope to return.”
