A woman was arrested Monday after a struggle with officers in Hesterfield, Virginia, led to a 180-year-old vial of strychnine being broken on several people who were on the scene.

The woman was wanted in relation to a domestic incident, and when authorities saw her driving with her child in the car around 11:00 a.m., they initiated a stop. However, the woman ignored the officers and continued driving for some time before she eventually stopped.

As officers attempted to detain the woman, a struggle broke out, during which time she dropped a glass bottle containing strychnine. The bottle, which was reportedly from the 1830s, shattered, and the woman, her child, three police officers and a sheriff’s deputy all came in contact with the poisonous substance.

The HazMat team was called in for decontamination and the woman was taken to jail. Her son was placed in the custody of a guardian.

No one involved in the incident appeared to be injured. It’s unknown where the woman obtained the 180-year-old vial of strychnine.
