High school senior and boy genius Kai Kloepfer decided to put his smarts to work on developing a biometric safety measure on firearms — or a fingerprint reader.
Last year when he was just a 17-year-old high school student from Boulder, Colorado, Kloepfer won a $50,000 grant last September to help push his work further. He was the first person to win the award since the Smart Tech Challenge launched in January 2014.
Kloepfer said his biometric sensor can be programmed to authorize up to 999 users and it boasts a 99.99 percent success rate — even with partial prints.
