Rock Island, IL –-(Ammoland.com)- Born on November 10, 1919 the inventor of possibly the world’s most widely used rifle would have turned 95 this day.
He passed away just before Christmas in 2013 and was largely recognized in his home country as a hero and abroad as a great firearms inventor.
He was decorated with numerous Russian awards including the Hero of Socialist Labor, the Order of Lenin, and the Stalin Prize.
Russia being a communist country when the famous AK-47 was invented, patents were not a concern and Kalashnikov never earned the deserved millions for his invention.
He continued working into his 80s at the Izmash plant that first produced his AK-47 rifles, while also traveling, helping negotiate new Russian arms deals, and penning several books.
С Днем Рождения товарищ Калашников!
(Happy birthday comrad Kalashnikov)
