The path of the outdoor writer is made up of many crooked miles. It is a path that many hope to walk, few attempt and even fewer successfully traverse and, in a world of rapidly changing print media, usually these excursions are done without the benefit of a map or compass.
If a trail guide exists, he is only accessibly through the writer’s that hiked that path before us and the belief that somewhere, coded in their prose, is the knowledge to keep us pointed in the right direction like how even a compass-less hunter has the knowledge to find North. So, when you get the chance to meet a veteran journalist like Phil Bourjaily, the tendency is to speak softly and soak up as much as you can.
Phil Bourjaily is a celebrated print and television journalist who writes primarily for Field & Stream. He is one half of the Gun Nuts column in F&S, which you can also find online here. He also stars in his own TV show by the same name (click to see video) which will enter its second season on the Outdoor Channel. Guns.com got a chance to bask in Mr. Bourjaily’s sage wisdom when we were both taking a break from covering the SHOT Show.
