New York, NY –-(Ammoland.com)- The venerable Guns & Ammo brand announced today the launch of Point of Impact, the iconic title’s first mobile gaming application developed for iPhone, iPod and the Web.
Point of Impact simulates a real-life shooting experience through a skills-based, non-violent progressive game that allows users to select from an arsenal of real-world guns, ammo and gear to compete in different shooting ranges and galleries. Guns & Ammo’s Point of Impact, which was developed in conjunction with Up&Atom!, is a free application and is available now at the App Store (store.apple.com/us) and at the brand’s website at www.gunsandammo.com.
Guns & Ammo parent company InterMedia Outdoors (IMO) will support the launch of Point of Impact with promotions and advertisements running across its 17 leading enthusiasts websites, 15 magazines, Sportsman Channel TV network, and through designated public relations efforts.
“We are absolutely thrilled with Point of Impact’s realistic shooting simulation experience; it’s so real you can practically smell the gun powder,” said Ted Gramkow, Vice President of Strategic Sales & Marketing, IMO.
“Our goal was to create a gaming experience that first-time shooters as well as experts would find equally entertaining, engaging and informative. We believe Point of Impact will find adoption among the ever-growing gaming niche, as well as real-world shooters and fans of the Guns & Ammo brand, allowing us to introduce the shooting sports to a new generation while enhancing our connection with our core audience.”
Point of Impact is the first “branded” shooting skills game for iPhone and iPod platforms.
“Guns & Ammo holds a position of authority and leadership in the shooting space and will bring instant credibility to the platform,” said Jeff Paro, CEO of InterMedia Outdoors. “This application is just one of many digital ventures IMO has been developing and producing, including our most recent Fly Fisherman Fly Bench app that gives step-by-step video instructions to tie a variety of flies. By the end of 2011, our plan is to introduce several other mobile and digital offerings from our stable of premiere, market-leading brands.”
Point of Impact is among one of the first games to utilize a sponsored-model platform. In addition to branding elements, presenting sponsor National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) blends its core mission of promoting, protecting and preserving the shooting sports throughout the game by providing informational and educational content. Additionally, all the gaming elements—firearms, ammunition, gear and ranges—are modeled off of real-life products and places. For example, one of the shooting ranges is modeled on the real Scottsdale Gun Club in Arizona. Supporting sponsors include Bushmaster, Ruger, Remington, DPMS, Stag Arms, Springfield Armory and Caldwell Shooting Supplies.
“With our goal to increase participation in hunting and shooting by 20 percent in five years, this interactive medium is an ideal way to introduce new, potential shooters to the shooting sports while also teaching them about firearm safety,” said Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president. “This partnership appeals to us because it offers an opportunity to recapture potential customers who up to now have forsaken an actual shooting experience for a virtual experience. This just seems to make sense in that we are reaching a much younger audience which is good for our sports and our industry.”
“This is a really unique communications vehicle for the shooting sports,” said Mark Thomas, NSSF managing director, marketing communications. “This game will attract younger participation and teach them about responsible firearms ownership and safety in a fun and unique way. It is one of the most unique marketing tools directed at a younger audience I have seen in our industry. Our partnership with Intermedia Outdoors gave us the confidence to make this happen.”
Additional elements of the Point of Impact gaming application include:
- “Gun Shop” where players can browse and select guns, ammunition, gear, targets and many other shooting accessories.
- Players also have “Gun Safes” in which to keep their guns and equipment to show and share with other players. Players can also add to their stock with purchases and reward points.
- Upon registering, players enter the “Clubhouse,” which, among other things, incorporates social networking elements so players can share scores/skills, measure and invite competition with friends via Facebook and Twitter.
- NSSF also provides real-world content on shooting and shooting facilities in your area, as well calendar and registration information, gun safety, and other shooting information.
