A woman who stopped to help a gunshot victim in Dayton, Ohio, over the weekend is now trying to come up with $2,500 to get her car cleaned after authorities deemed her car – which is stained with the stranger’s blood – a biohazard.
Alexis Margioras, the mother of a 10-month old daughter, now has no way to get to work each day, but despite that, she says she doesn’t regret her decision to help the guy.
Margioras and her friend, Rolandis Bush, were driving down the road Saturday when they noticed the guy lying on the ground. Margioras had her window slightly down and could hear people yelling for help, screaming that the man had been shot.
Without hesitation, Margioras stopped – as numerous other passersby just kept on passing by – and with the help of a few people who were with the gunshot victim, loaded the man into the car and applied tourniquets made from T-shirts to his wounds.
“There was no time to wait for an ambulance, so we had to use Alexis’s car to get him to the hospital,” Bush said.
They rushed the man to the hospital. He is still in serious condition, but expected to survive.
Initially, Margioras’ car was taped off, as it was considered a crime scene, but even after crime scene specialists cleaned it, blood remained in the car.
“There was so much blood on the floor, stuck underneath the flooring. The only way to get that properly cleaned is to pull up the flooring completely and pay another crime scene cleanup crew to come clean up what’s underneath, and pay another company to fix the flooring in the car. As well as they’re looking into the leather where it seeped into the seaming and the threading,” Margioras said.
Bush started a Go Fund Me account for his friend, which has so far reeled in $925 of the $2,5000 goal.
