WEST POINT, MS – -(AmmoLand.com)- As title sponsor of the Bassmaster High School Series and official pattern of B.A.S.S., Mossy Oak Fishing is thrilled to congratulate Andon Goins and Blake Wheat on winning the 2019 Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School Wild Card presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors.
This tournament took place on Cumberland Lake and the anglers took out from Halcomb’s Landing in Jamestown, Kentucky. There were a total of 106 high school teams comprised of 212 total anglers from from several states.
Fishing out of Dayton, Tennessee for the Rhea County Eagle Anglers, Goins and Wheat finished the one-day tournament with a one-day limit of five bass, weighing 18 lbs.-3oz., winning by almost four pounds.
According to Bassmaster.com, Wheat said: “In the mornings, bass were active — they were blowing up — and then throughout the day we keyed in on the spoon and started catching them suspended. The lunker came in the same deep water, right off a dock. I had just lost a 4-pounder in a dock slip, and something caught his eye swimming near the dock. I saw this black mark (in the water). I just pitched to it, and I saw it turn, and it blew up on my Spook. I thought it had to be at least a decent fish because it was a big blow-up, and I told him to get the net.”
“Seeing what will be two freshmen win this event is what makes these events so exciting,” said Ben Maki, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Mossy Oak. “We’re proud of all the competitors and we are honored to be a small part of an incredible high school fishing series.”
