Recently the Georgia governor’s Drug Suppression Task Force, along with the local sheriff’s department and help from the DEA’s Cannabis Eradication Program, stormed a man’s property expecting to find a marijuana grow-op. Instead they found nothing but okra.
The program uses helicopters to peer into people’s back yards in search for illegal substances.
The gardener, Dwayne Perry, was more than a little shaken.
“I was scared actually, at first, because I didn’t know what was happening,” said Perry. “They were strapped to the gills.”
“Here I am, at home and retired and you know I do the right thing,” added Perry. “Then they come to my house strapped with weapons for no reason. It ain’t right.”
They didn’t leave empty-handed as they seized some of the okra “for analysis.” Apparently to make sure that it was, in fact, okra, and not some new variety of mind-altering gumbo.
“We’ve not been able to identify it as of yet. But it did have quite a number of characteristics that were similar to a cannabis plant,” said Georgia State Patrol Capt. Kermit Stokes.
