Gary Sinise, the actor best known for his role as Lt. Dan in the movie “Forrest Gump,” attended a ceremony Friday in Chevy Chase, Maryland, to dedicate a new “smart home” to a wounded veteran.
Capt. Luis Avila, who has a wife and three sons, was seriously injured by an improvised bomb in Afghanistan in 2011. He lost his left leg, was left with brain damage, and has suffered two heart attacks and two strokes.
The smart home is one of more than 50 that have been built by the Gary Sinise Foundation.
