LINCOLN –-(Ammoland.com)- Reenactors will portray the days’ events from 1824 during living history weekend July 2-3 at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park (SHP).
To celebrate Independence Day, the interpretive volunteers will reenact daily events at the fort as recorded in a newspaper from that era.
Visitors can watch military troops in action, listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence, watch trades like blacksmithing and butter churning, and explore the fort’s period-accurate places, such as the school, council house and garden.
Fort Atkinson, the first military post west of the Missouri River, is seven blocks east of U.S. Highway 75 near Fort Calhoun. A park entry permit is required. To see a full list of each day’s events, visit Calendar.OutdoorNebraska.gov.
