Former Marine robs bank, shoots himself in head after crashing getaway car (VIDEO)

A former Marine robbed a Missouri bank then shot himself in the head after crashing his getaway car Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Florissant native robbed a U.S. bank in Hazelwood at gunpoint before fleeing in his getaway car. Police pursued the suspect for several miles before he smashed into a concrete guardrail. As authorities approached the wreckage behind the safety of ballistic shields, he shot himself in the head, local media reports.

The bank robber was transported to a St. Louis hospital where he was put on life support and listed in critical condition.

No shots were fired in the bank and police didn’t fire any shots during their approach towards the suspect.

The suspect had been in the Marines for five years and left the service nearly a year ago. According to Florissant Public Information Officer Andy Haarmann, “He had no steady employment but had recently bought the car he was driving.”
