FNH USA Sponsors NRA National Defense Match
Fourteen Year-Old Colton Cerino Wins First Place in Optics Category.
McLean, Va. –-(Ammoland.com)- FNH USA was recently the title sponsor ofthe new NRA National Defense Match August 13 – 14, 2011 at historic Camp Perry, OH, which was held during the high power rifle phase of NRA’s month-long National Matches.
This match was an invitation-only event designed to introduce participants to the sport of practical shooting and mimics real-life military training and tactics.
“We are pleased to support the inaugural NRA National Defense Match,” said Ken Pfau, Senior Vice President of Law Enforcement and Commercial Sales for FNH USA.
“We are excited to work with other long-established competitive event organizers like the NRA to create specific match formats at major competitions in order to let participants discover the enjoyment of ‘fun and gun’ shooting sports.”
Fourteen year-old high school freshman Colton Cerino won first place in the Optics Category and placed fifth overall. FNH USA provided Cerino with a SCAR 16S for use during the match.
The FN SCAR is a lightweight modern sporting rifle designed for use in challenging tactical environments. Developed in 2004, it underwent stringent in-theater testing before it was deployed overseas with U.S. Special Forces units in 2009. FNH USA introduced a commercial, semi-automatic version later that year.
The rifle operates on an innovative, short-stroke gas piston system that routes heat, soot and carbon created during firing away from the bolt and chamber. As a result, critical areas remain cooler and cleaner, increasing reliability and accuracy. The SCAR features a collapsible and side folding stock, as well as a movable cheek rest making it perfect for multi-position shooting events.
“The SCAR was the perfect firearm for Colton to use,” said Pfau. “It’s ideal for young shooters because it is one of the most lightweight, adjustable and easy-to-use carbines on the market today.”
“After shooting the SCAR on the range, I knew I loved it,” said Cerino. “The first thing I noticed was that it recoiled less than a standard semi-automatic sporting rifle. The controls and adjustable stock and cheek piece made it an easy gun for me to shoot. This is a gun that I was very comfortable with after only three days of training.”
“FNH USA is deeply committed to supporting junior participation in shooting sports,” said Pfau. “Congratulations to Colton for a job well done. You have set an amazing example for other talented juniors interested in becoming more involved in competitions like the NRA National Defense Match.”
