A 19-year-old Florida woman faces numerous charges after she allegedly held her girlfriend against her will, tortured and threatened her during an incident in Jacksonville last week.
Kayla Leonard was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, false imprisonment, cruelty to animals, violation of probation and failure to appear. Authorities launched an investigation after Leonard’s girlfriend arrived at the hospital July 9 with numerous injuries, including what appeared to be bullet wounds.
At first, the victim told authorities she was shot with a shotgun in the parking lot of a local Walmart, but later admitted that the injuries were caused by her girlfriend, Leonard.
Leonard allegedly forced the victim into a house where she shot her in the neck, face and private parts with a BB gun. Leonard, who also shot the victims’s cat, forced the victim to remove all of her clothing, kneel in salt, and drink hot sauce.
According to the victim, who asked to be taken to the hospital after feeling faint, Leonard tried to clean her in the shower because she was bleeding so heavily. Leonard eventually took the woman to the hospital, but threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what had happened.
After taking a report from the victim, law enforcement went to Leonard’s home but she refused to answer the door. After forcing their way inside, officers found Leonard hiding in a closet. Officers also observed bloody clothing, cleaning supplies, and BBs scattered about the house, as well as several holes in the walls and mini blinds.
Leonard denied hurting the victim and said her injuries were caused by three men who came after her because she stole marijuana from them.
