An 18-year-old who first claimed he was the victim of a shooting is now behind bars after police learned he actually shot himself while making an escape after robbing two people in Orlando last week.
Police received a phone call just before 1 a.m. from the teen, who said he was just shot in a drive-by. But when police responded to the call, they came in contact with two men at a nearby apartment complex who said they were victims of an armed robbery just minutes prior.
The victims gave descriptions of the suspects, one of which matched the shooting “victim,” who was also found to be in possession of the stolen items.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, it appears the teen accidentally shot himself as he and his accomplices were making their escape after the robbery.
All three suspects were apprehended and booked on armed robbery charges.
The victims were not injured.
