RESTON, VA –-(Ammoland.com)- NSSF has learned that as part of its overall Export Control Reform (ECR) initiative, the administration will be publishing as early as next week proposed amendments to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) to move Categories I – III (firearms and ammunition products) off the U.S. Munitions List (USML) and over to the Commerce Control List (CCL) for export licensing under the EAR.
This is an extremely important development for the firearms and ammunition industry.
Major changes to how firearms and ammunition and related products are licensed for export are quickly coming to our industry. In the near future, the export of firearms and ammunition products will be handled primarily by the U.S. Department of Commerce – Bureau of Industry Security (BIS). In order to successfully — and properly –– export your products it is imperative that you learn how the CCL works, what exemptions and exceptions exist in the EAR, how the BIS licensing system functions and what the consequences are for violations of the EAR. The Import/Export Conference is the perfect time to begin learning what you need to know. Officials from the BIS who you will be dealing with to license the export of your products will be making presentations and will be there to help answer your questions.
