Four people were arrested and more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana seized after federal agents discovered a 415-yard drug smuggling tunnel leading from a Calexico, California, home to a restaurant in Mexicali, Mexico.
Authorities say the three bedroom home was constructed last year after the purchase of the $240,000 lot and the house was built solely for the purpose of moving drugs across the Mexican border. In fact, during the construction of the home, the builders were instructed to leave an opening for a “floor safe.”
The individuals who were arrested face a slew of charges, including drug trafficking and money laundering.
