Father of 11-year-old girl arrested after investigators learn she was shot at home, not bus stop (VIDEO)

11 year old shot

The father of an 11-year-old girl who was fatally shot after school in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Monday is behind bars, charged with her death, after investigators realized the story he gave about the girl’s injuries just didn’t add up.

Timothy Batts, 29, originally told the police that his daughter, Timea Lashay Batts, was shot while getting off of the bus Monday afternoon. Batts said he discovered his daughter had been shot when she walked into the house and was bleeding from her wounds. He called the police and Timea was flown to a hospital in Nashville, where she died about two hours later.

But following an investigation, which included an interview with the bus driver, authorities said they found evidence that Timea was actually shot inside her own home.

Batts was subsequently arrested and faces numerous charges, including reckless homicide, tampering with evidence and false reporting. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

Authorities did not disclose whether they believe the shooting was accidental.
