End Of Year Wrap Up From Iowa Gun Owners
Iowa – -(AmmoLand.com)- As the session nears we are gearing up for what promises to be a very exciting and fast paced session. The members of the General Assembly have made it clear that this will be a shortened session due to budget constraints and so we will need to move fast once the session begins.
Since forming in January of 2009 Iowa Gun Owners (IGO) has been growing at an incredible pace because the people of Iowa are so fed up with having their 2nd Amendment rights denied by a government official for no reason.
For those new to our email list you should know that IGO is working hard to pass a Vermont/Alaska style carry bill in the Iowa General Assembly. This bill would allow anyone in Iowa, not a felon or barred by federal law, the right to carry a weapon for self-defense, openly or concealed, WITHOUT having to first beg permission from the government. This is currently the law in Vermont and Alaska and we believe that, as a Midwestern state, Iowa should be a leader in gun rights – not tied with states like California and New York as one of the worst states.
In the final hours of the 2009 session IGO, working with Rep. Kent Sorenson, was able to obtain a roll call procedural vote on our bill with an exciting 49-49 tie. This was possible only because our members put pressure on politicians of every stripe, urging that they vote to support their 2nd Amendment rights. We can now use this vote to inform our members who supports their right to keep and bear arms and who just says they do.
All this work and energy has certainly got the attention of people across the state and country. Some are trying to harness this energy and direct it away from where it needs to be – preserving your right to keep and bear arms.
Please keep reading below for more about this. It’s time to start calling your representatives and urging them to continue to support and press for passage of the REAL Right-to-Carry bill in the Iowa House while we push now for a vote in the Iowa Senate.
