A disturbing video surfaced this week which appears to have footage of the moment a young photographer is killed by a sniper in Cairo. Ahmed Assem El-Senousy, also known as Ahmed Samir Assem, was at the pro-Muslim Brotherhood protest on Monday when snipers from the Egyptian army positioned atop buildings opened fired on the protesters below.
El-Senousy was also located on a rooftop filming the events as they unfolded. The video is a shakey, unsteady and slightly out of focus recording of a sniper firing off several rounds from an adjacent roof. Almost 30 seconds later the sniper aims at the camera and the video abruptly ends.
At least 42 people were killed and 300 injured during the violent rampage.
Sherif Mansour, the Middle East and North Africa coordinator for The Committee to Protect Journalists said in a statement Monday, “A sniper silenced Ahmed Assem El-Senousy, but his killing has only amplified today’s tragic events. Egypt’s path to peace and freedom depends on authorities respecting the rule of law and basic human rights for all people.”
Just two weeks prior to his death, El-Senousy wrote a premonition-like post on Facebook saying, “No picture is worth your life.”
