Hamburg, PA –-(Ammoland.com)- It’s early June, and with competitors on the line overlooking a sea of spent shells and busted clays, it can only mean one thing. . . the Sportsman Team Challenge Nationals are in Austin, Texas.

Doug Koenig shifts gears from competitor to the role of mentor as son Trevor competes in the Junior Division and develops a winning game plan in the shotgun event.

Now in its 26th year, the Sportsman Team Challenge is a family oriented friendly match that welcomes beginners or experienced competitors and attracts professional competitors. The multi-discipline format emphasizes teams develop a strategy that will showcase everyone’s shooting skill benefitting the overall teams score and performance during the three day venue.

With the steel events behind competitors, the format shifted to three shotgun events utilizing aerial clay targets called the Flurry, Flush and Mixed Bag. The Flurry and Flush require teams to engage fifty targets in approximately one minute, while the Mixed Bag is similar to a five-stand course with the shooter not knowing from which of the trap machines a pair of clay targets will be released upon their call.

Koenig commented “Trevor newness to the shotgun event reinforced how important it is to have a game plan; he regrouped, made the adjustments and focused on reading the targets.” Koenig added, “The Sportsman Team Challenge is a fun-filled match for families to experience; free loaner gun equipment is available and there’s plenty of helpful folks that will support you.”
