Former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld weighs in on Saddam Hussein, al Qaeda and 9/11 in the upcoming film “The Unknown Known,” a documentary by “Fog of War” director Errol Morris.
Morris questioned Rumsfeld, who was the foremost architect of the Iraq War, about his response to 9/11 and why he led America to believe Hussein was involved in the attacks. But Rumsfeld argued it was Osama bin Laden behind the attacks.
“Oh, I don’t think so,” Rumsfeld said. “It was very clear that the direct planning for 9/11 was done by Osama bin Laden’s people al Qaeda, and in Afghanistan. I don’t think the American people were confused about that.”
“The Unknown Known” is scheduled to be released April 4.
