USA – -(Ammoland.com)- “Advocates for illegal immigrants are unrepentant after yesterday’s shocking acquittal on all homicide charges of an illegal-alien confessed killer,” reporter Heather Mac Donald noted in a December 1 City Journal report. “The advocates are defending the sanctuary policies that had set in motion the 2015 killing in San Francisco; they have also doubled down on their opposition to any deportation of illegal aliens, criminal or otherwise. If ever there were a clarifying moment regarding what is at stake in the battle for the immigration rule of law, this is it.”
As usual, “progressives” place all focus on the gun a five times-deported illegal immigrant (with seven felony convictions!) first stole and then used to kill a woman strolling on the waterfront with her father and friend. 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle would still be alive had a law enforcement officer not left his gun unsecured in a backpack in his car while going to dinner with his family. So naturally, Demanding Mom Shannon Watts sent out a tweet making excuses for illegal immigrants and blaming guns:
Instead of being prosecuted for a violation of California law, which leaving his gun unsecured in his car was, BLM ranger John Woychowski was never even disciplined. Instead, El Centro’s 2011 “Ranger of the Year” was promoted five months after Steinle’s killing.
The other law enforcement “contribution” was by Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, who ignored a detainer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and put the killer back on the streets. He’s another textbook “Only One” who, while working to disarm his countrymen, has taken hypocritical advantage of his own elite status to keep his guns. That’s despite a domestic violence charge (plea-bargained to false imprisonment), a documented history of his “well known temper,” and reports that he failed to qualify to carry a gun under California law (after which the range officer was conveniently demoted and transferred).
But it’s your and my guns that are the problem. That’s despite California’s draconian restrictions on the ability of ordinary people to keep and bear them. And despite the same people who want to disarm us digging in on “sanctuary” status in violation of federal law.
This has got to have a backlash and that may well manifest itself in the 2018 elections. Flyover Americans—the same people who turned out to dumbfound the establishment by electing Donald Trump (not because of the man but because of his platform) see travesties like this and it fosters bitter resentment. We see disasters caused time and again by “progressive” policies, and contempt, ridicule and blame heaped on our “deplorable” values, and some of us don’t forget.
And we see the problem repeat itself in other “progressive” strongholds, like a recent story from Portland, OR, where an illegal alien, deported 20 times, was convicted of kidnapping and sexually abusing two women. We see him laughing at his sentencing hearing and telling the families he’ll “see [them] in hell.”
We see Portland declaring itself a “sanctuary city,” with useful idiots demanding that President Trump admit unrestricted “refugees.” We see Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler amp up the defiance of immigration laws:
“We will not be complicit in the deportation of our neighbors. Under my leadership as Mayor, the City of Portland will remain a welcoming, safe place for all people regardless of immigration status.”
Naturally, Wheeler is all for infringements on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. And no surprise, he has as much disdain for the First Amendment as he does for the Second.
We’re not going to be able to do anything about states and urban locales that are overwhelmingly “blue.” But if enough “red state” Americans turn their outrage at injustices like these into motivation to act, perhaps we can once again shock the hell out of all the establishment media pundits, who are wishfully envisioning midterm turnarounds in the House and in the Senate.
All the Republicans will have to do is deserve our support.
