A waitress at Busboys and Poets in Washington, D.C., got an unexpected tip from a Trump supporter after the inauguration last week.
Jason White, a dentist from west Texas, went to the inauguration with two friends, but – knowing they were a little out of place – he decided to remove his pro-Trump ball cap when they went to the restaurant.
Their waitress, 25-year-old Rosalynd Harris admitted that she had them pegged as Trump supporters in town for the inauguration, but – despite perceived political differences – said they were fun and playful patrons.
It wasn’t until after they were already gone that she noticed the $450 tip – symbolic of Trump being the 45th president – and the kind words White left behind.
We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people. Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!
White later explained that he had simply been moved by everything he witnessed in the nation’s capital that weekend, from the inauguration to the Women’s March.
“You automatically assume if someone supports Trump that they have ideas about you,” said Harris, “but [the customer was] more embracing than even some of my more liberal friends, and there was a real authenticity in our exchange.”
Harris said the encounter definitely reshaped her perspective.
“Republican, Democrat, liberal are all subcategories to what we are experiencing,” she said. “It instills a lot of hope.”
