The dash cam video showing Officer Jeronimo Yanez shoot and kill Philando Castile was released Tuesday.
It comes just days after a jury acquitted Yanez of all charges, including second-degree manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm.
“Sir, I have to tell you, I do have a firearm on me,” Castile can be heard saying in the video.
“Okay, don’t reach for it then,” Yanez said. “Don’t pull it out.”
Within seconds, Yanez had fired seven rounds into the vehicle. Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, can be heard screaming in the background. Her daughter, who was sitting in the backseat, gets out of the car and walks towards the other officer on the scene.
A frantic Yanez shouts commands at Reynolds from a different angle than what Reynolds streamed live on Facebook in the moments after the shooting.
Yanez keeps his weapon pointed at Castile until other officers arrive. They pull Castile out of the vehicle and give him CPR. Yanez can be heard talking to other officers, who are asking him questions.
“He had his grip a lot wider than a wallet, and I don’t know where the gun was. He didn’t tell me where the fuckin’ gun was,” Yanez said. “He was just staring straight ahead and I was gettin’ fuckin’ nervous and then I told him…I know fuckin’ I told him to get his fuckin’ hand off his gun.”
Yanez was acquitted of all charges against him last week, sparking protests and nationwide outrage.
