Last week authorities in Oklahoma released dash cam footage showing the encounter that led to the fatal shooting of a police officer in Tecumseh.
On March 26, Officer Justin Terney initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle with a broken taillight. During the stop, Terney began to talk with the passenger, who told the officer his name was James Bishop, Jr. Terney soon realized the passenger was lying about his name and when he questioned the passenger about it, the passenger fled on foot.
Terney followed the passenger and deployed his Taser, which had no effect on the suspect, who was later identified as 36-year-old Byron James Shepard. During the exchange, Shepard fired three shots at Terney, who can be heard in the video wailing in pain.
Despite efforts to save him, Terney died as a result of the injuries he sustained. He was just 22-years-old.
Bishop was apprehended immediately after the shooting and now faces charges for first-degree murder.
