Rifle makers Daniel Defense are giving back to those impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
Employees with the company handed out thousands of pounds of water and ice to Georgia residents who stopped by the factory on Thursday and Friday. Workers said it was the least they could do for a community that has welcomed and supported them.
“This is our effort and our way of giving back to the community that gives to us, and we’re honored to do so,” Sean Polwort, Director of Training and Safety for Daniel Defense, told local reporters.
Polwort has been in close contact with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and local authorities for several years preparing for an incident like Hurricane Matthew.
“In conjunction with FEMA, we have made Daniel Defense a designated staging area for these types of supplies,” Thomas Carlson, Director of Marketing Communications, told Guns.com in an email. “Supplying manpower, supplies and facilities to those we can help in these tough times.”
Carlson said employees were simply following the motto of Daniel Defense founders Cindy and Marty Daniel — “Always do the right thing.”
Hurricane Matthew left behind a path of destruction as deadly floods and high winds ravaged several states along the U.S. coast line. Forty-four people have died, thus far, as a result of the storm and millions of dollars in damage have been reported.
The manufacturer was forced to shut down production in early October at its Ridgeland, South Carolina factory as Hurricane Matthew barreled through the state. Production kicked back into gear earlier this week as employees returned to the facility.
