Conservative radio host and NRA advisor Dana Loesch railed against blue jean maker Levi’s, calling them “total pansies” after the CEO put out an open letter this week asking people not to bring guns to their stores.
“Is he going to post security at all of his stores, or in order to shop at Levi’s is everyone just supposed to risk their lives? I don’t feel like dying over a pair of jeans,” Loesch said in a segment on NRATV Thursday.
Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh posted the letter this week after an incident where a gun went off in one of their stores and injured the person carrying it. “We respectfully ask people not to bring firearms into our stores, offices or facilities, even in states where it’s permitted by law,” said Bergh, noting that it’s a request, not a mandate. “It boils down to this: you shouldn’t have to be concerned about your safety while shopping for clothes or trying on a pair of jeans.”
“This is common sense: No one should have to worry about their safety when shopping for jeans,” said Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts in an email to Guns.com.
For Loesch, it’s the gun on her person that makes her feel safe.
“This argument that because a terrorist or a criminal may use an instrument to kill you, thus you can’t use that instrument in greater or equal measure to defend your life or the life of other innocents is the most back ass-ward argument that I’ve ever heard…and it absolutely infuriates me because people are dying,” Loesch said. “This is what we’re facing, and we have people that are talking about disarming Americans and making everybody soft targets.”
Bergh, a former U.S. Army captain, doesn’t own a gun, and a Fortune write-up on his letter noted that he consulted with Starbucks, a company that put out a similar request to customers in 2013.
Loesch said unless Levi’s plans to have security guards at each store, she’ll be ignoring Bergh’s request. “I’m gonna carry in your store unless you post the signage outside that bans me from doing that on your private property, in which case, I’m not gonna give you no more of my money,” she said.
