Custer State Park to Host Annual Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival

CUSTER, S.D. – -(Ammoland.com)- Make plans to attend Custer State Park’s 49th Annual Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival. The Buffalo Roundup begins at 9:30 a.m. MDT on Friday, Sept. 26 2014. The Arts Festival will open Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday, Sept. 28 2014.

The parking areas for the Roundup, located near the corrals along the Wildlife Loop Road, open at 6:15 a.m. MDT and close at 9 a.m. MDT. For safety reasons, spectators are asked to remain in the viewing areas until all the buffalo are corralled, around noon.

In addition to Friday’s Buffalo Roundup, Custer State Park will host a weekend of entertainment and craft and art booths at its 21st Annual Arts Festival. The festival begins Friday afternoon following the Buffalo Roundup and is open until 6 p.m. Saturday’s hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. The Arts Festival takes place near the State Game Lodge.

“The Buffalo Roundup brings over 10,000 spectators to Custer State Park to view the park’s 1,300 buffalo and experience the old west come alive,” said Matt Snyder, Custer State Park superintendent. “The weekend arts festival features lots of entertainment and activities as well as over 150 arts and craft exhibitors.”

There is no cost to attend the Buffalo Roundup or Arts Festival on Friday. A South Dakota state park entrance license is required to enter the park on Saturday and Sunday.

Next year’s Buffalo Roundup will be held Friday, Sept. 25. The 2016 event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30.
