USA –-(Ammoland.com)- In the first installment of Compound Bow Basics I covered waxing your string and cables.
Waxing your string gives you the opportunity to observe both and to make a determination when it is time for a replacement.
Timely replacement is imperative for bow safety. A snapped string or cable can cause injury to you or others and can ruin your bow.
Examine the area of the string and cables where they emerge from the tightly wrapped areas, called servings. If you see any broken strands it is time to get a new string and/or cables.
If there is a little fuzz this area can be treated with wax. Observe where the string and cables insert into the cam on both ends of the bow. If there are any signs of separation in the serving, as though the string might pull out from its insertion point, change your string and cables before shooting the bow again.
If you want to get your own bow press and change your own strings and cables be sure that your press can handle the bow you own. It’s best to have a professional change these out for you until you have gained some experience with your bow. Also, if you begin to learn about bow maintenance you will also want to learn how to examine and maintain the cams, limbs, and riser of your bow.
