While searching for a missing 17 year old in the roaring rapids of Cape Kiwanda, Oregon, two first responders involved in the search fell into the water, but the U.S. Coast Guard quickly made a helicopter rescue and the entire thing was captured on video.
Megan Owens, who reportedly fell from a cliff while hiking with friends, went missing Monday. Despite a massive search that included helicopter and boat crews covering 72-square miles and an additional 426 miles during a 19-hour search, the girl was never found.
“Despite our best efforts and an exhaustive multi-agency search, we were unable to locate the missing girl,” said Greg Merten, operations unit controller at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, in a news release Tuesday. “Our deepest condolences go out to the loved ones affected by this terrible tragedy.”
