Since 1933 the M2 Browning heavy machine gun has been spitting out .50 caliber Freedom wherever its used and is still a crowd-pleaser today with all branches of the military, to include the Coast Guard.
The above video shows the USCGC Heriberto Hernandez, a brand-new Sentinel-class cutter named after a Coast Guardsman killed in action in Vietnam, lighting off one of her M2s in some familiarization fire.
The 154-foot long cutter is well served by four such mounts as well as a Mk 38 Mod 2 25 mm cannon as a hood ornament up front.
She is stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico and currently involved in Operation Tradewinds, a multinational exercise in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.
