SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. –-(Ammoland.com)- Austin Cisna of Metamora, Ill. swapped the lead with Tori Nonaka of Woodbridge, Va. and Joseph Perez of Dandridge, Tenn. before taking the Junior title at the 2011 Springfield Armory USPSA Single Stack Nationals this weekend.

Cisna started the match out in front but fell to third place on stage three where Nonaka took the lead and Perez moved into second.

Then on the fourth stage Cisna reclaimed the lead only to give it up to Perez on the very next stage where he’d stand in second place with Nonaka in third.

This order held through to stage seven of the match when Cisna overtook Perez and the lead which he’d hold on to through the remainder of the match. Cisna won the Junior title with a final score of 610.3718.

With Cisna in first and Perez now in second, Nonaka remained in third where she stalked Perez until making her move on stage 11. After closing the gap with Perez to just 6.7818 points, Nonaka jumped ahead into second place with an impressive 25-point swing that gave the 16-year-old an 18.2182 point margin.

Despite giving back some points on stage 12, Nonaka expanded her lead to more than 51 points as she finished second, sixth overall among all women, with 596.1391. Perez finished third with 544.6538.

Rounding out the top five were Travis Sievert of Gainesville, Va. in fourth with 535.4339 and 11-year-old Lee Wills of Midland, Va., who was honored by match officials as the youngest competitor in the match, in fifth with 386.2769.

“The competition among USPSA juniors is always exciting to watch and Austin, Tori and Joseph proved why as they battled each other for the title. Austin shot an excellent match and I add my voice to those of the 20,000 members of USPSA in congratulating him on this win,” said Michael Voigt, USPSA president.

Also claiming titles at this year’s championship were Dave Sevigny of Smyrna, Ga. who won the overall title with 977.8292 points, and Sara Dunivin of Phoenix, Ariz., who claimed the Women’s title with 683.7541. Among the seniors, Jon Huspek of St. Paul, Minn. claimed the Senior title with 721.2450, while the Super Senior title went to Robert Keller of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. with 577.6446.

The Springfield Armory USPSA Single Stack Nationals were held this past weekend in Barry, Ill. with over 350 top shooters from around the country competing in the event.

The match was established in 1994 as the Single Stack Classic by pistolsmith Richard Heinie, and then USPSA Illinois Section Coordinator, Russell Cluver. The match was designed specifically for the 1911 model pistol and no other pistol design has been permitted in the competition.

In 2006, USPSA designated the popular match as a national championship. The name Single Stack refers specifically to magazine used in the 1911 pistol which holds just a single column of ammunition. The 1911 is one of the most popular firearms sold in America and the Single Stack National Championship is the preeminent showcase for the venerable 1911.
