CHP officer saves kids from burning car (VIDEO)

A California Highway Patrol officer was in the right place at the right time when a family’s car caught on fire with two small children inside Monday morning in Monterey.

Kaleo Clissold said he just “happened to be behind the vehicle” when he “saw an explosion of smoke and flames” coming from under the hood of the car. And Vern Fisher, photographer for the Monterey Herald, just happened to be behind the officer and managed to capture the dramatic rescue on video.

The driver of the vehicle pulled over once fire and smoke began to billow under the hood, but apparently became panicked after she could not get the back door of the car opened. Without hesitation, Clissold intervened and got both children out to safety before a second woman emerged from the front passenger’s seat.
