Chicago man dies after gun in pants goes off

A 33-year-old man from Chicago died early Friday morning after a handgun he had tucked in his pants accidentally discharged.

Officers responded to the shooting just before midnight and found Steven Winston sitting in a parked car. Police determined his injuries were the result of a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” and occurred as Winston was “moving in the vehicle.”

Winston, who was shot in the abdomen, was rushed to a local hospital and initially listed in critical condition. Winston later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m.

Authorities said they do not believe Winston had a license to carry a concealed weapon.
