Can a loaded mag in a plate carrier save your life? (VIDEOS)

The good folks over at The Wound Channel did the research into just how likely a magazine in a plate carrier is likely to stop or slow down a bullet enough to possibly save your life.

In a series of two videos above and below, TWC examines if high velocity 5.56 and 7.62x39mm rounds– which are capable of penetrating Level III hard-plate and IIIA soft body armor at close range– would be slowed down further by mags in a chest pouch. As such they test an aluminum GI M16 mag filled with brass-cased ammo and a steel AK mag filled with steel-case ammo.

The smoke and sizzle of the propellant going off is a neat side effect, but the ultimate result is surprising.
