An attempted robbery at a Lamont, California, shop last week ended with the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound.
The incident unfolded around 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, and was captured on the store’s surveillance video.
The suspect walked into the market, set some items on the counter, then instead of paying, walked away. A few minutes later, the suspect returned, this time attempting to walk off with the items without paying for them.
As the suspect tried to bolt out of the door with the merchandise, the store owner fired his gun, dropping the suspect to the ground just outside of the front door. Moments later, a car drove up and the suspect pulled himself into the car, but police caught up with the car a short time later and the suspect, who is expected to survive, was apprehended.
The shop owner said their store has been robbed four times in the past, several times at gunpoint. He said he fears for the safety of his family and he’s tired of working hard only to have criminals come in and try to take away what he’s worked for.
