An internal affairs investigation has been launched after several officers from the Santa Ana Police Department who were involved in a raid on a medical marijuana dispensary partook in questionable activities, which included destroying cameras, playing darts and trying out some of the marijuana-laced edibles.
After clearing the business, the officers destroyed the cameras, but what they failed to realize was that there was a secondary security camera system which recorded the rest of their actions.
The officers were heard making fun of one of the patients who was present when the raid began – a wheelchair-bound amputee named Marla James, who has since filed a lawsuit.
“Did you punch that one-legged old Benita,” a male officer is heard asking a female officer.
“I was about to kick her in her f***ing nub,” the female officer replied.
The officers are later seen unwrapping small packages and popping what appeared to be marijuana-infused edibles into their mouths while discussing the “flavor” of the contents.
“We expect our officers to act in a certain way,” said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Chris Revere. “If they don’t we hold them accountable. But at the same time we have to be fair.”
Revere said that while the behavior appears alarming, he “couldn’t say for certain” what the officers were eating.
