An ad in support of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s bid for the Republican nomination for President released Thursday is dotted with Medal of Honor recipients.
The two-minute ad, named Ready, intersperses images of President Obama with those of Bush while four recipients of the country’s highest military decoration weigh in.
“This commander in chief requires training wheels,” says James E. Livingston, a retired major general from the U.S. Marine Corps who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam in 1968, just before an image of Obama is shown.
“Jeb Bush is ready to take the role of commander and chief,”says U.S. Army MSG Leroy A. Petry, who lost his hand in 2008 attempting to throw back a Taliban grenade.
Other MOH recipients featured in the ad include retired Air Force Col. Leo K. Thorsness, a Wild Weasel pilot who survived six years in a North Vietnamese prison camp and retired Marine Col. Jay R. Vargas, both of who were presented with their awards by President Nixon.
As reported by the Bush campaign, a full dozen recipients of the honor are endorsing his candidacy including two, Petry and retired Marine Cpl. Kyle Carpenter, who were presented the medal by President Obama.
According to the Medal of Honor Society, there are 79 living recipients.
