The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence will launch a national initiative attacking so-called “Bad Apple” dealers, or licensed gun dealers who sell weapons into the criminal supply chain, the group announced Tuesday.
The campaign will kick off with a protest in a lot next to Chuck’s Gun Shop in Chicago on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., Central Standard Time.
The group will also circulate a petition and a code of conduct for responsible gun sales and will file several lawsuits “to hold gun dealers accountable when they turn a blind eye and sell guns to criminals, and the gun traffickers and straw purchasers who supply them,” the group said in a statement emailed to Guns.com.
The gun control advocates point to numbers released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in 2010 that traces some 57 percent of gun crime in the country to 1.2 percent of active gun dealers. The data further shows that each of those dealers had 10 or more crime guns traced to them.
