A group of nearly 100 bikers rode together Saturday to show their support for Andrew Tahmooressi, the U.S. Marine who is being held in Mexican prison for crossing the border with three legally owned firearms last April.
The bikers set off from a Harley Davidson store in San Diego around 11 a.m. and rode a 55-mile loop near the U.S.-Mexico border. They hoped their display of support would help free Tahmooressi and have him returned to America, the local ABC-affiliate reports.
“We just want to get a message loud enough for the White House -for President Obama – to pick up the telephone and call the president of Mexico and get Andrew Tahmooressi free,” said “New York Myke,” who organized the rally.
Tahmooressi’s mother, Jill Thamooressi, said the recent July 4 holiday without her son was difficult, but expressed her gratitude towards the biker group for their support.
“The family is honored and Andrew is so appreciative that so many people are interested in seeing him free,” Jill said.
Tahmooressi has his first Mexican court date set for July 9, and his mother plans to attend.
