Wanted: Big Bucks for the DNR-Toyota Big Buck Display at National Hunting and Fishing Days Celebration Sept. 26-27, 2009 at Stonewall Resort State Park
West Virginia – -(AmmoLand.com)- The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) will again partner with Toyota to present the Big Buck Display at West Virginian’s Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days (NH&FD) at Stonewall Resort State Park from Sept. 26-27, 2009. “DNR is very excited about this partnership because it gives us an opportunity to promote this very popular display at the largest outdoor-oriented event in the state – showcasing hunting, fishing and wildlife appreciation,” said DNR Director Frank Jezioro. Stonewall Resort State Park is conveniently located along Interstate 79 (Exit 91), in Roanoke (near Weston), Lewis County.
The Big Buck Display allows hunters with legally-taken West Virginia white-tailed buck mounts (either head or antler mounts), taken in any year and scoring 150 or more in either Pope & Young or Boone and Crockett, a chance to display these at NH&FD.
“This is the seventh year that the Big Buck Display has been held in conjunction with NH&FD, and the second year we have been so fortunate to have Toyota as its primary sponsor,” noted Director Jezioro. “Additionally, we are very fortunate to have Horton Archery, LLC, sponsoring some substantial door prizes for some lucky contributors to the Big Buck Display. This is a wonderful opportunity for hunters to display their trophies in front of an audience approaching 19,000 people!”
Hunters wishing to display their trophies at NH&FD must pre-register. Interested hunters should contact Keith Krantz at 304-637-0245 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or e-mail keithkrantz@wvdnr.gov for additional information and a registration form. More information, along with rules and application, can also be found by going to the West Virginia Big Buck Display Web page at: www.wvdnr.gov/hunting/wvbigbucks.shtm. Because participation is limited to the first 30 qualifying trophy entries received, applicants should enter very soon. As an incentive for participation, each hunter displaying a trophy deer at the two-day event will receive a door prize and four randomly picked participants will receive substantial prizes.
“We are happy to have Toyota again sponsoring our West Virginia Big Buck Contest during the coming 2009 hunting season,” noted Director Jezioro.
To win, hunters are required to have their deer heads scored by an official measurer and must meet certain standards. All entries must be completed by January 31, 2010. More information on the 2009 WV Big Buck Contest will be presented in the future on the West Virginia Big Buck Contest Web page at: www.wvdnr.gov/hunting/BigBuckContest.shtm. All winners of last year’s contest will be announced at the upcoming NH&FD and published in the Big Game Bulletin.
“We anticipate many winners from the 2008 Big Buck Contest will be displaying their mounts at this September’s West Virginia Big Buck Display at NH&FD, and certainly hope many of the winners of this year’s Big Buck Contest will be displaying their mounts at next year’s display,” said NH&FD Event Coordinator Jerry Westfall. “I invite everyone to come to National Hunting and Fishing Days and see our wonderful Big Buck Display and the winners of last year’s Big Buck Contest!”
