A 24-year-old Fremont woman is speaking out after she received a visit from law enforcement following a trip to buy ammo last week at a Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Sim Sangha, a firearms instructor who is preparing to join the LAPD, went to the store and inquired about buying eight boxes of ammunition for an AR-15. Sangha said the ammo was for her firearms class, not her personally, but two days later cops came knocking on her door.
“I don’t know if it’s [because of] my skin color or that I’m Indian,” she said. “I’m not a Muslim, but even if I were, that’s no reason to call police to my home, instantly.”
Sangha, who has friends who routinely purchase ammo in bulk, said she feels she was singled out simply for the way she looks, but gladly would have provided her credentials if she was asked for them.
In the end, the officers apologized to Sangha, but at the same time noted it was their responsibility to investigate what others may feel is “suspicious.”
