ATK Awarded $20 Million to Deliver Load-Bearing Vests for the U.S. Marine Corps
ATK Wholly-Owned Subsidiary, Eagle Industries, to Produce Vests
Eagle Scalable Plate Carrier(TM) Lightens the Load for U.S. Marines
MINNEAPOLIS, — Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has received a $20 million order from the U.S. Marine Corps to produce Scalable Plate Carriers and components. The Scalable Plate Carriers (SPC) are scheduled for delivery by the end of January 2010, and will be produced by the company’s recently acquired, wholly-owned subsidiary Eagle Industries.
The SPC, designed by Eagle Industries in 2008, maximizes Marines’ agility, while relieving heat and weight stress due to carrying individual combat loads in arduous environments. The SPC’s slim and highly adaptable configuration allows Marines to adjust the load to match ever-changing mission profiles. In Afghanistan, Marines are operating at higher altitudes and the SPC provides ballistic protection in that environment. The features of this system are specifically designed to lighten the Marine’s load, increasing maneuverability, lethality, and survivability.
“ATK is working with the U.S. Marine Corps to provide mission-critical solutions for the courageous men and women who defend our freedom,” said Mark DeYoung, ATK Senior Vice President and President Armament Systems. “We are constantly improving our existing products by developing new and innovative technologies, maintaining our quality standards, and providing the best value to military and law enforcement professionals around the world.”
