USA – -(Ammoland.com)- “U2 rock star Bono had to be rescued by armed police after being caught up in the Bastille Day Nice massacre,” The Daily Mirror reported Sunday. The 56-year-old singer was on the terrace of La Petite Maison, next to the seafront in the French city when mass murderer Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel struck.
That’s all the more interesting of a development when one considers Bono has long been a vocal advocate for “refugees” and against citizens having the means to protect themselves, and has evidently even sung about police putting down their guns.
The band’s hit “Vertigo” was initially titled “Native Son,” and was originally meant to convey a different message, a 2004 Time magazine piece posted on @U2.com explained.
“The song was all about gun control — an extension of [Bono’s] political beliefs,” producer Steve Lillywhite explained.
“On their recently wrapped tour, U2 used their nightly podium to powerfully address the issue of gun control,” Rolling Stone noted in 2001. “During their performance of The Joshua Tree‘s ‘Bullet the Blue Sky,’ the band screened a disturbing video montage created by artist Catherine Owens that included images of victims of gun violence and children toting firearms.
“During their June 21st performance at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Bono stood at the end of the heart-shaped catwalk, illuminated only by the flashlight he held in his hand,” that piece recalls. “At the song’s climax, Bono turned the flashlight toward his face as he repeated, ‘What’s my name? Mark Chapman!’ over and over again, referring to John Lennon’s assassin.”
A video of that song’s performance in Boston shows that montage:
It may strike some as presumptuous for foreign nationals to come to America and attack the right to keep and bear arms. It’s also curious that the original lyrics to the repurposed “Native Son” included this bit of advice:
On the run
Officer, put down the gun
There’s no word on if Bono advised his armed rescuers to put down their guns. What’s certain is he will continue to endorse universal citizen disarmament while simultaneously being a leading voice for the UN, for foreign aid and for seeing “refugees not just as a burden, but as a benefit.”
Why would anyone expect different from a globalist jet-setting environmentalist tax dodger, who demands others fund his social justice warrioring while he shelters his precious assets in foreign banks? If there’s one truism we see consistently demonstrated, it’s that for “progressives” every day is Opposite Day.
